SUPERTUBOS, Peniche/Portugal (Sunday, October 13, 2013) – Medium surf and unfavorable wind conditions have forced event organizers at the Rip Curl Pro Portugal presented by Moche to call a lay day for competition.
Stop No. 9 of 10 on the 2013 ASP World Championship Tour (WCT), the Rip Curl Pro Portugal completed Round 1 in clean conditions on the opening day of the competition window and will recommence when conditions improve. “We had hopes this morning that the conditions would improve significantly throughout the day,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge, said. “But unfortunately the side-onshore wind has picked up and destroyed the lineup. We will be back early tomorrow with hopefully better waves on offer.” Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow at 7:45am to re-assess conditions for a potential 8am start. When competition recommences, up first will be current ASP WCT No. 1 Mick Fanning (AUS), 32, against Fancisco Alves (PRT), 20 in the first heat of Round 2.
