Things got a little more whipped up today – the wind blew a little harder which always makes things a little more interesting. Better surfing conditions, local knowledge and our surfing talent produced some exciting heats. The sets rolled in beautifully, 2 – 3 foot offshore, for most of the day. The Point didn’t disappoint. We had some outstanding results. Maybe it also had something to do with our real live mascot – Zak – the Smith’s dog – who ran up and down the beach with “EP” plastered on his back. You couldn’t miss him! The kids even painted brand new eyebrows on him. He did cut a striking picture. Team support was strong as ever, and in between heats, there was a whole lot of face (and body) painting going on. Check out Alex and Sebastian, Dylan and a few others in the pics. They do look rather beautiful and….. terrifying. Today was also a day to be inspired. Kia Fenton showed us all how true champions behave. Although she was knocked out, she showed grit and determination right to the end, catching one of her best waves seconds before the end of the heat. She never gave up. As coach Etienne said, “This kind of behaviour is the mark of a true sports(wo)man. She inspired us all today”. We also had Twiggy Baker on the beach today, and together with fellow Big Wave Surfer, Frankie Oberholzer, they added a different dimension to the competition. Nice to have them roaming our beaches! RESULTS U13 B Dylan won his heat, through to round 3 Enrico came second, through to round 3 Ryan came fourth in his heat and sadly, knocked out. U13 G Kai won her heat, through to round 3 Kelly Fenton came third in hers, through to round 2 repo U15 G All three of our girls, Ashley, Kirsty and Zoe all won their heats and are now through to round 3. U17 G Robyn and Crystal had great heats, both won and are through to round 3. Kia came third in her heat, went through to surf round 2 repo, and came third in that heat. She was unfortunately knocked out. Kai Woolf posted the highest heat score of the day, coming in at a 14.5. Tomorrow, conditions are forecasted bigger than today with a predicted off shore for the morning. It’s going to be a long day – EP are surfing in 19 heats – out of 27. It’s the weekend (baby). Come and visit us in Jbay.! Wrap & images Sandy Coffey
