1950's - 1970's
A classic time - life was still evenly paced, people had time to enjoy the simple things in life. Technology didn't rule the world quite yet. Surfing pics were scarce as no-one had camera's in those day - only the real larney's and the Herald guys! Nonetheless, some are coming out the woodwork. Please email me if you have any surf related shots of this era, I'll add them to the gallery (and can scan them for you as well if required).

Surfing Heritage South Africa
These guys are doing an awesome job of preserving SA's surfing history. Go check out their site. You can read the first 5 editions of South African Surfer online, published from 1965-68. You could buy 4 issues for R1.35, including postage! There were some classic Seals & Bruce's shots that you can see below. Makes you want a time machine. Plus you gotto love the old ad's. Not too sure what a "skittool" was, but looked pretty damn porno to me - kinda like a lycra surf short? Anyone from that era- feel free to enlighten me. JBay Point was described as a right slide point break!
They also have the first 5 issues of the Zag online. Did you know it is the 4th oldest surf mag in the world? How the world has changed - the early Zag's featured jetskiing, windsurfing and paddle-skiing. Yikes...
YOU GOTTO DOUBLE CLICK ON THE FIRST SHOT TO OPEN UP THE FULL SIZE SLIDESHOW MODE - YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS STUFF FULL SIZE OU'S!

Old EP Surfing Council scrap book - 1968 - 1971
Thanks to Barry Heasley who is the current custodian of the 1968 EPSC scrap book. A dog eared and weather beaten A4 book covered in tattered brown paper with EPSC stencilled on the cover (anyone remember stencils!?) In it resides a classic collection of old newspaper clippings from '67/'68. Unfortunately the old newsprint doesn't scan very well, so I had to take photo's of the pictures. Amazing to see guys out at JBay in baggies -- no wetsuits back then.
