Madagascar:
When: Month of August/Sept 2006
We booked out trip through True Blue Surf. The flight from JHB to Antananarivo took a chilled 4/5 hours. Thank god i took my ipod as there is no inflight entertainment other than the banter of the unexpected and predicted waves we were going to encounter.
From the capital we were met by our tour guide and hopped onto another plane which im sure was the same plane that we traveled on from SA. Toliara was the next stop our mode of transport from here was, taxi, Zeebo cart (oxen) and speed boat. The 3 hour bumpy boat trip took us even more south to fishing village of Anakoa.
Our accommodation was pretty rustic no running water other that the flush loo. We where each left a 5l bucket of water on the sunny veranda that warmed through the day and worked pretty well. The food was great fresh fish, fish pizza, fish soup, fish braai, fish pasta, fish curry, fish sandwiches all accompanied by the local beer "Three Horse".
Surfing:
We were on route every morning at 6am. The island in-front of Anakoa (1km across) had 2 breaks that we surfed Flame Balls (left) and Jelly babies (right). Warm water and sun i was hooked. By lunch time we would make our way back as the wind would pick. The rest of the afternoon we chilled with the Three Horse.
The trip was well worth it. I could go on and on about all the great experiences we had...
The peeps are really friendly; the market (a few km outside the airport) was really cheap. We have chatted about going back, but trying the Northern part of the country.
