Classic old Surf mag
Leo Davis sent us an email about this classic old mag, SA Surfer, he discovered in his cupboard! It's from September 1967 and cost the princely sum of 50c!! Bet you can't even get a bliming Chappies for that today....
It has the results of the 1967 SA Surfing Titles, as it was called then. Leo and the late Barry Hastings were EP's official judges at the compo. There're a coupla EP ou's that show up on the results page. You know something's lank old if legend Mush Hide is in the Juniors section!!! He made the semi's that year, with Gavin Rudolph getting a 4th. Check out the results pic to spot more EP guys n gals.
Other interesting stuff in the mag was the reference to PE's first surf club - called the Commodores. Funny how our only surf club today also starts with a "C"! What'll do your head in is to see that back then you could have picked up a plot at Seals for R900 - yes, you read that right, R900. Check out the ad below. You know the mag is laaank old when the back page ad for a mini advertises that it has roll down windows as one of it's main features! Not sure what the hell type of windows they had before that!! Guess horse and cart didn't have windows hey?
Thanks Leo for a classic slice of history. C'mon ou's - if you have baalies who surfed back then go trawl through their stuff for old pics and other cool surf stuff and send it in to us.
