Hummies 4 Feb '11
Early birds got lucky today, as it was definitely better when it still had a bit of tide. As the tide dropped, so did the wave quality. Conditions were pretty all over the place, but there were barrels to be found and ramps to boost from. Much entertainment was provided by the conveyor belt rip that deposited you out in the line up. Once you committed to the paddle out that was it, not turning back - not even if you wanted to. A pulling tide and big rip ensured you were on a one way path, and sometimes that led to hell! When you feel yourself starting to accelerate and it has nothing to do with you paddling faster, and then start to feel yourself almost going downhill - it can only mean one thing - you're in the death zone! As the sets rolled in it was sucking out below sea level onto the crazy shallow bank at the pylon. X marks the spot.....where you don't want to be! All the usual suspects out there, John, Josh, Bruce and a few who's name I keep forgetting, sorry!
Apologies for the funky colours, but Hummies isn't the best spot to shoot in the morning - into the sun, compounded by the hazy onshore.
With the new slideshow mode, you can scroll over the thumbnails at the bottom, and this'll scroll them either left or right.
