Do your bit for the planet (& the surf!)
Hope you ou's heard about climate change. It's a blimin' serious issue where the earth's heating up way too much and way too quick. "So what" you might say, bring on the boardie weather. Not so simple. A warming planet doesn't only screw with entire ecosystems and disrupt our food chains and water resources, but it throws the surf for a loop too. So if you want your favourite waves to still be around in years to come, make a plan to do your bit. Not asking you to become a tent dwelling hippie that only eats raw veggies, but just do what you can - it's easier than you think.
How does climate change affect the surf?

Be greener at home...
- Easiest thing in the world - just turn the temp on your geyser down, and turn the thing off when you go away. Geysers chow 60% of your electricity, so it'll save you cash too.
- Switch your lightbulbs to CFL's - those twirly one's
- Unplug your laptop, cell phone & iPod charges when you're done charging, or at least switch off the plug. These things are vampires that still suck electricity even when they aren't attached to your device!
- Switch off the lights when you leave a room, and turn off the TV, hifi, computer etc when you aren't using it. Standby mode still chows power.
- Buy local and seasonal - the avo's flown in from Spain and the baby sweetcorn from Kenya have hefty carbon footprints cos they get here via a fossil fuel guzzling flight.
- Recycle your trash - so easy, just get in touch with the peeps at Greencycle (see below) and for a monthly cost that's cheaper than a burger at Spur they'll collect your stuff every week. About 60-70% of the stuff you normally gooi out can go to recycling. Seri-aaas.
