CYOH took out the inaugural regional club champs at Pipe on Sunday, against stiff competition and in testing conditions. The win sees them get to represent the Eastern Cape in the upcoming National Club Champs.

"With head high waves, a pushing tide & loads of talent, the scene was set for the first Eastern Province Regional Club Championships. The purpose for this event was for each region around the country to get all their relevant clubs together to battle it out, team vs team & individually, in order to see who the top 2 clubs are in that province. Those 2 teams then qualify for SA National Club Champs, which will be held later on in the year.

Needless to say with names like, Dylan Lightfoot, Justin Grey, Steven Sawyer, Kyle Jacobs, Ettiene Potgieter, Mat Mcillivrey & Clinton Frazer the competition was gona be nothing less than ruthless raw action. The teams that took part in the event were, Cyoh Surf Club, JBay Boardriders, NMMU, Sunset Surf, JBay Surf & newly formed Dolphins Club. The structures were pretty simple & clear, tag team heats between clubs where run, as well as each club nominating there "best" surfer to compete in an individual battle. A point related system would then decide the overall winning Club for the event.

With JBay boardriders clearly stamping their mark from the beginning, it wasn't soon into the competition were the "unknown" surfers quickly started turning heads & making the other teams from NMMU, JBay Surf & Sunset Surf potential candidates to start causing some very big upsets.After a long, hard contestable day, the finals where set. The Tag Team final showcased a straight JBay Boardriders A & B team vs Cyoh A & B team. The individual challenge played host to big rivals between Bruce Campbell & Dylan Lightfoot with along side Yusaf Khan & Dean Cox.After a long day, it was clear from the get go, that Cyoh Surf Club had found their rhythm & feet, especially with Ettiene Potgieter throwing down a perfect 10 to clinch the win over JBay Boardriders in the final of the tag team event. 

The individual competition was blow for blow,which was clinched by one of SA's next big names in surfing, Dylan Lightfoot from JBay Boardriders.Once all the relevant points had been put together, it was a tight race, with CYOH SURF CLUB being crowned REGIONAL CLUB CHAMPS 2012.A big shout out to everybody who made the event possible, SSA, EP Surfing, Johnny Bakker, Shirley Fairall, Ettiene Venter, Hannelie Bakker, Merrick Fairall, Alister Smith & all the Clubs for taking part.
