Classic photo archives
Millerslocal is starting to build a photo archive of old shots of PE's beaches and surfing from back in the day. All this old stuff's on print, so unless we start making an effort to scan and record this stuff the fish moths are going to eat them stukkend, and they'll be lost forever.
I'll be loading the galleries slowly over time, but feel free to send in any old surfing/beach shots you have, from the 60's to the 90's. No scanner? No problem, just lemme know and I'll sort it.
First up are a collection of lank old shots of the PE beachfront courtesy of Jenny Bennie at the Port Elizabeth Museum at Bayworld. Check out what our beachfront used to look like way before anyone owned a surfboard. Just imagine how many good waves rolled through unridden! There's some classic shots of Humewood....complete with big steamship pulled up the slipway!

1950's to 70's Old School Bruce's - how it used to be...
Oh man, there're some classic shots in here. A collection of old PE beach and surfing images, as well as some amazing Seals and Bruces. There're some shots from old surf mags, a coupla hilarious old surf ad's and some newspaper clippings of EP surfing in the late 60's.

Old Surf mag - 1967 Buy at Seals for R900!
Leo Davis sent us some images from an old 1967 surf mag he found at home. Classic stuff about PE's original surf club, the Commodores. Plus results from the '67 SA Surfing Titles - where Mush Hide was still a junior! Check it out here....

Classic vintage surf ad's
Ever wonder why all the ballies wear Old Spice? Turns out that during the 70's and 80's they used to push the association with surfing heavily in their ad's. And everyone knows that surfing is cool...so Old Spice became cool! Eish! Have a look at their surf ad's from back in the day. Shot at Pipe. The famous "Old Spice" song was being used already way back then.

Old Skateboarding
Old skate shots are even harder to get hold of than old surf shots. Thanks to Gary Cooper for sending in these classic shots from the Fishhoek & Claremont cement bowls back in 1978. Check em out.
