Baakens surfing
Rain, rain and more rain. Good for our dams, not so good for our sense of humour. And even less good for the quality of surf. Luckily the rising waters awoke a long dormant "surf spot" - the Baakens River. A couple of guys decided to brave the murky waters as PE's rarest right, the "Boardroom Bend", came to life. Spearheaded by the Boardroom's Dennis Ellis, they took on the "swell" with longboards and bodyboards. There was even an 'el rollo' pulled by one intrepid booger. Unfortunately as with all good things they come to an abrupt end. The cops arrived to politely, but prematurely, end the session. And we though the lifey's at Humewood were strict! Thanks to Luc to braving the cold to get us the pic's.
By the way, have the lighties these days have gone a bit soft? Back in the day plenty ou's used to run the Baakens on bodyboards when it came down in flood. They got dragged through the trees and the fences, washed over the rocks, had near death experiences and generally got cut to shreds for their troubles, but they still came out the other end smiling!
